Our Attorneys

Together, attorneys Edward J. Karfeld and Donna L. Karfeld bring more than three decades of experience in bankruptcy law and collections to help individuals and businesses find effective solutions to their legal problems. As a former bankruptcy trustee for Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases for nine years, Mr. Karfeld has a thorough familiarity with the bankruptcy process, and clients. In addition, he has given numerous lectures and published works on various topics in bankruptcy and collections law over the years.

We focus our representation on the following:

• Chapter 7 bankruptcy. We represent debtors and creditors in liquidation proceedings under Chapter 7. We help debtors determine whether they qualify for protection under Chapter 7 and, if so, prepare and file all required documents to initiate the bankruptcy proceeding. We help creditors prepare and file proofs of claim and represent them in all proceedings before the court or trustee.
• Chapter 11 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy. We work with both debtors and creditors involved in reorganization proceedings under Chapter 11 or Chapter 13. We file petitions for debtors and proofs of claim for creditors. We also review proposed repayment plans to ensure your best interests are protected. We defend creditors against suits filed by bankruptcy trustees.
• Business collections. We help businesses collect unpaid obligations, prepare demand letters, locate debtors and assets, secure legal judgments and take all necessary action to enforce and collect on those judgments.

Our bankruptcy practice extends to Chapter 9 filings for government entities, such as cities, counties, towns and villages that face financial pressures and seek debt relief.
